Job Description
Jefferson Parish is currently hiring for an Equipment Operator I position on the East Bank and West Bank for future vacancies as they occur.
Kind of Work
Under general supervision, employee will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of light tractor drawn equipment such as mowers, bush hogs, etc. (10 ft. or smaller) as well as perform minor maintenance and servicing of the equipment. Employee is responsible for cutting grass, trimming trees, and/or spreading sand. Loads trucks with materials to be delivered to work-sites or dumps. Candidate may be required to assist in moving equipment from one job to another or assist in moving equipment in the yard in cases where the equipment is disabled. Depending on the assigned vehicles, Equipment Operator I's may be required to possess a valid Louisiana Standard (Class E) or Chauffeur's (Class D) Driver's License in order to perform the tasks associated with the position. Performs related work as required.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum age of 18 years; plus, meets at least ONE of the following:
1. Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish. OR
2. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent. OR
3. Verifiable, satisfactory work experience (or certifiable completion of a training program) in the operation and maintenance of light, tractor-drawn equipment, such as riding mowers/bush hogs.
NOTE: For positions in the Departments of Juvenile Services or Parks & Recreation, any conviction listed in the Louisiana Child Protection Act (Louisiana R.S. 15:587.1) is considered disqualifying, unless written proof of pardon is submitted in time for consideration with the application.
