Job Description
Purpose of Announcement
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL MULTIPLE CURRENT VACANCIES IN THE DEPARTMENT OF JEFFERSON COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAM - HEAD START.
NOTE: POSITION IS DESIGNATED AS "CYCLICAL" AS DEFINED BY THE PERSONNEL RULES. EMPLOYEES ARE PAID ONLY FOR WEEKS WORKED, APPROXIMATELY 44, AND ARE "FURLOUGHED" THE REMAINING 8 WEEKS. EMPLOYEES ARE PAID BI-WEEKLY, AND ANNUAL SALARY IS BASED ON 22 PAY PERIODS. CYCLICAL EMPLOYEES DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE PAROCHIAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM.
Kind of Work
Employee assists the Head Start Teacher in planning and implementing daily program for the total development of a group of pre-school age children. Responsibilities include supervising the children and assessing their progress, performing specific teaching activities, preparing room for meals and rest periods, visiting participants' homes, and maintaining related records. Also, assumes responsibilities of teacher when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination
Applicants must meet one (1) of the following:
1. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent; PLUS certification as a Child Development Associate (CDA).
2. Possession of an Associate's degree or higher degree from an accredited college in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or in an equivalent education major in which the primary focus of study is the care and development of preschool children (i.e., children 3 to 5 years-of-age).
3. Possession of an Associate's degree or higher degree from an accredited college in any subject, including at least eighteen (18) credit hours of coursework relating to ECE.
NOTE: Coursework relating to ECE may include courses offered in various departments (e.g., Education, Music, Art, Library Sciences, Physical Education and Recreation, Psychology...etc.); however, this coursework must address early childhood education or child development with a focus on children ages 3 to 5 years.
