Job Description
About Glassroots: As the partner nonprofit of Glass Half Full Inc., Glassroots reimagines glass waste as a community and environmental asset. Glassroots provides free glass recycling services, promotes environmental education and stewardship among people of all ages, and works alongside partners to implement coastal restoration, green infrastructure, and disaster preparedness projects using recycled glass sand and gravel in Greater New Orleans and Southeast Louisiana.
About the Position: Glassroots is seeking a Program Manager to lead and shape our core program areas in close partnership with the Executive Director. This role offers a rare opportunity to guide a young and dynamic organization at an important moment in its growth. We believe glass recycling can serve our communities and coastlines in powerful new ways, and we are counting on this position to help expand that impact.
We are looking for someone who can build meaningful partnerships and turn strong concepts into effective community programs. If you are someone who dreams big, works with purpose, and enjoys building something that matters, we would love to work with you. This position will help shift the culture of recycling and sustainability in the Gulf South while supporting the growth of a mission driven organization.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop Glassroots’ four programming areas (community glass recycling, coastal restoration, K-12 stem education, and green infrastructure) and lead logistics and delivery of each program with support from AmeriCorps team members and guidance from Executive Director.
- Oversee programming goals, timelines, and outcomes for all program areas
- Coordinate programming and recycling logistics with partners such as Glass Half Full, local businesses, and community groups
- Develop new partnerships that expand program reach and relevance
- Collect and organize program data to evaluate program performance
- Support development of programming budgets and ensure accurate use of resources
- Support the identification of grant opportunities that can strengthen and sustain programming
- Identify opportunities for new projects and help shape long term program vision
- Ensure compliance with grant requirements and reporting
- Represent Glassroots at events, meetings, and community gatherings
- Ensure programs follow organizational values and safety practices
Required Skills and Experience:
• 1-3 years leading programs and/or developing new programs
• Background in managing community based programs from planning through implementation
• Experience building and maintaining relationships with community groups, local businesses, or government agencies
• Adept at communicating with diverse community members in writing and in person
• Experience collecting, organizing, and presenting program data
• Skilled in project planning, timelines, and evaluation
• Familiarity with nonprofit settings or other mission driven environments
• Ability to prioritize tasks, problem solve, adapt to change, and shift focus as needs evolve
• Commitment to collaboration, reciprocity, and high quality work
• Proficiency in Google Suite
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and keep a positive attitude
• Ability to comfortably lift 35+ lbs
• Reliable transportation
Preferred Skills and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
• Knowledge of the New Orleans nonprofit landscape
• Skill in managing program budgets and monitoring expenses
• Skill in writing or supporting grant applications and reports
• Knowledge or interest in recycling, sustainability, community engagement, zero waste and closed loop systems, coastal issues, green infrastructure, waste reduction education and/or climate resilience and adaptation
Work Hours: Work hours for staff are generally Monday through Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. There will be programming and events happening outside of these hours that the Program Manager will be expected to attend. This role will be in-person 3 - 4 days a week and is a hybrid role with WFH flexibility. At present, the Glassroots team operates out of the Louisa St. Warehouse (3935 Louisa St. New Orleans, LA 70126).
Application Deadline: December 23
To Apply: Please email your resume, cover letter and references to isabella@weareglassroots.org.
In your cover letter, please address the following prompts
- Why you are drawn to the mission of Glassroots and how your background has prepared you to lead community based environmental programming in New Orleans
- Share an example of a program you helped build or strengthen explaining your role and what you learned that you would bring to Glassroots
Benefits
Compensation: $50,000 annual salary
Benefits:
- Observance of all federal holidays
- 13 days of paid time off
- 5 days of paid sick leave
- Medical premium covered up to $600 each month
